Southwest Dental Conference Brought Interconnectivity!

Dentists DJ

The Southwest Dental Conference made sure that this summer keeps rolling. Despite the balmy weather outdoors, the Hilton Anatole housed some of the coolest new technology for our field. Now in its 95th year, the conference is a splendid example of how we can further dentistry as a fundamental part of healthcare. Dental Junkie breaks down some of the best things we saw in pushing our industry forward!

Dentistry As Essential Care

Too often is dentistry confined to the periphery of medicine. Our healthcare system views dental health as somewhat separate from our overall wellbeing. So often it can feel like an extra hurdle in outreach to patients. Potential clients might be able withstand an unappealing smile or a questionable bite. But by breaking down this delineation, we can explain how comprehensive health relies upon adequate dentistry.

While technical prowess is always welcomed, without application, there can be no public use. One of the best benefits of conferences is the social element, so these are hotspots for new possibilities. And if you can do it in a lovely setting, even better! The Hilton Anatole in Dallas is one of the most spectacular venues for exhibition, and we hope to visit more in the future.

A Whole Health Approach

An aspect that the Southwest Dental Conference highlighted that was particularly useful was the importance of comprehensive medicine. More than ever, we are learning about the close ties between our oral health and the rest of our body. While cardiovascular ties have become more known in patients, there are so many other ways that our procedures may help people.

Pointed Technology

Even through cosmetic surgeries, the interconnection with wellbeing has been incredibly helpful in many ways. When patients are more open and honest with doctors in other fields, it can lead to earlier diagnosis in our own offices. And this works the other way around, as well. While the American public previously tended to isolate these areas of medicine, the communication between doctors has shown incredible promise.

We here at Dental Junkie truly appreciate that focus. Some of the greatest leaps forward in dentistry have come through our creative mind. From porcelain veneers to reconstructive jaw surgery, none of us would be here if it weren’t for the dreamers. Often, STEM advocacy can be dry and clinical, but chairwoman Dr. Sarah Poteet has navigated these waters to great success.
